SAFETY

Flannery London Plant Hire believes that a well-informed client is essential in a 21st century environment. Safety is an issue that none of us can ignore and at the Flannery Group, we take this very seriously – our staff are regularly trained to the latest standards and we ensure regular checks are carried out internally at all times.

Adhering to basic safety precautions and abiding by statutory regulations when using excavators incurs no expense but ignoring them can have dire consequences, as follows:

  1. In some instances, serious injury or loss of life.
  2. Damaged machinery, incurring charges or insurance claims
  3. Consumers without water / gas / electricity / telephones for long periods of time.
  4. Expensive repairs to services for which the utility provider can quite reasonably be expected to charge (Fibre optic cable can cost £1/4 million if damaged!).
  5. Site flooding, disregarding a gas leak or live electrical mains cables which would cause major disruption to work, serious injury or fatality.

All of the major utilities will provide free advice on locations of their services, upon request. If you are unsure whether there are specific services on your site, our recommendation is always to call them direct – if you need any further advice please contact Flannery plant hire at any time.

Excavations or holes should be adequately covered or guarded when secure fencing of these areas is not possible.

  1. All excavations of 1.2 metres deep or more, (or less if there is a significant risk of collapse), should always be securely shored up at entry points.
  2. Excavators should not be used within 0.5 metres of known underground power cables or other service supply lines.
  3. Before working near overhead power cables, owners should be contacted to obtain advice on safe working practises as these are likely to vary.
  4. Particular care must be taken to ensure the prevention of an unexpected building collapse when excavators are working in close proximity.

Broken excavator windows should be replaced immediately to safeguard the operator.
