Flannery Plant Hire Celebrates Eco Operator of the Month: Sharon!

At Flannery Plant Hire, we are always striving to operate more efficiently and sustainably, and it’s our dedicated team members who help us lead the way. This month, we are excited to celebrate one of our outstanding operators, Sharon, who has been named our Eco Operator of the Month for June! Sharon came through the Operator Skills Hub Skills Bootcamp back in may 2022, previously working at a school as office manager and said she’s never looked back since!

Sharon’s performance stood out with an impressive achievement of just 6.35% idle time while operating the DT12T. This is a fantastic result, demonstrating not only excellent operational efficiency but also a significant contribution to reducing our environmental impact.

Minimising idle time is crucial in our industry. It’s not just about fuel savings – though that is a big part – it’s also about cutting emissions and reducing unnecessary wear on machinery. Sharon’s commitment to keeping downtime to a minimum has directly contributed to a more sustainable way of working, and we’re incredibly proud of her efforts.

In recognition of Sharon’s hard work, she has been awarded a £100 Amazon gift card, a small token of our appreciation for her dedication to eco-friendly practices. Sharon’s efforts serve as a fantastic example of how we can all make a difference, and we hope her achievement inspires others across our sites to continue pushing for greener, more efficient operations.

Congratulations, Sharon! Keep up the great work, and let’s all continue to strive for even better results in the months ahead.

What is Eco Operator of the Month?

Flannery’s Eco Operator of the Month award is our way of recognising employees who excel in reducing idle time and improving operational efficiency. By doing so, we are able to lower emissions, save fuel, and promote a more sustainable approach to plant operations. It’s all part of our ongoing commitment to the environment and a greener future for the construction industry.

What Is an Idle Time and Why Does It Matter?

Idle time refers to the period when a machine is running but not in active use. Reducing idle time is critical in our mission to lower emissions, fuel consumption, and overall operational costs. For context, the industry average for idling is often significantly higher, which makes Sharon’s achievement on the DT12T a notable success. By minimising idle time, operators like Sharon help save fuel and reduce the carbon footprint associated with construction and heavy plant operations.
