Over the past few months there will certainly have been many questioning the security of their chosen job and career. Also impacted are those who are leaving school in the midst of a career change who will be searching out new opportunities. Now is the time to truly showcase what construction industry has to offer and demonstrate why construction is a sustainable career pathway for all.
The launch of the new Plant Operator Trailblazer Standard could not have come at a more critical time, and is a welcome addition to the array of construction career pathways available to new entrants. We are proud to have been part of bringing this standard to fruition, with Patrick Flannery chairing the working group since the project’s inception.
We are now excited to open applications for our first intake, commencing in September 2020 at our state-of-the-art training centre in Dunton Wharf. Successful applicants will be trained on four machine types including an excavator, dumper or dump truck, forklift and ride-on roller, acting as the stepping-stone into the sector and occupation. The programme is between 12-16 months long with the majority of training taking place on-site, offering apprentices the chance to earn while they learn.
Patrick Flannery said, “After many years of developing this apprenticeship, we’re pleased to have passed the final hurdle. As a team, we are looking forward to engaging with potential providers and ensuring the very best training for our future apprentices. I must mention (and thank) the wider working group, their dedication to seeing this apprenticeship through to fruition is something to be admired and I am very grateful for their support. More than ever, we need to attract new talent and we hope industry will support our efforts and take up this important apprenticeship.”
