Flannery Plant Hire Launch Kirklees Operator Skills Hub to Develop Local Talent!

On Tuesday 11 March, Flannery Plant Hire joined partners from Kirklees College and Kirklees Council to celebrate the official launch of the Kirklees Operator Skills Hub. Located at the college’s state-of-the-art Engineering Centre in Huddersfield, this innovative training hub is set to enhance local skills and create new opportunities in the construction sector.

As the fifth Skills Hub of its kind in the UK, this mobile unit is equipped with cutting-edge virtual reality plant machinery simulators and classroom facilities dedicated to delivering Skills Bootcamps. Adjacent to the hub, Kirklees College has transformed its land into a live construction site, featuring a range of Flannery plant machinery, providing learners with hands-on experience in a real-world environment.

Flannery’s Skills Bootcamps offer short, intensive courses for adults aged 19+ who are looking to develop or enhance their skills in plant operations. Whether participants are new to the industry or looking to upskill, these courses provide a pathway into sustainable employment. To date, more than 1,400 learners have benefited from Flannery’s Skills Bootcamps across the UK, and the first cohort in Kirklees is now set to begin training.

As a key partner in the Kirklees Skills Hub, Flannery is proud to support this initiative alongside Kirklees College and Kirklees Council, who have invested in the project as part of Kirklees Build. This regional programme is designed to boost the local construction industry and is linked to the Dewsbury Town Board’s regeneration plans.

Speaking at the launch, Paul Skitt from Flannery Plant Hire said:

“Flannery is delighted to be supporting the Kirklees Skills Hub and collaborating with Kirklees College, Kirklees Council, TRU, BAM, and the wider supply chain. Our partnership will ensure that sustainable employment opportunities are created for people in Kirklees and the surrounding areas.”

Flannery remains committed to developing the next generation of skilled plant operators and providing high-quality training to help bridge the skills gap in the construction industry.
