National Mental Health Awareness week is a chance to tackle the stigma surrounding mental health and continue to break down the barriers within the construction industry. The Flannery BuildUp! Campaign is our symbol of commitment to this cause. Through workshops, toolbox talks and induction training, we are passionate about providing support to our workforce and signposting them to the array of resources available to them.

“Having signed the Building Mental Health Charter towards the end of 2018, we have made huge strides in raising awareness amongst our workforce. We’ve run several Mental Health Awareness Workshops, delivered toolbox talks on site, trained Mental Health First Aiders through MHFA England and developed our own in-house campaign. With two construction workers taking their life every day, we feel committed to this important cause and will push the campaign throughout 2019” (Sophie Cox, Training Manager).

More recently Flannery has become a premium supporter of Mates in Mind, a leading UK charity supporting organisations in addressing mental ill-health within their workplaces. Sophie continues, “There are so many benefits we can tap into by supporting Mates in Mind. We are particularly looking forward to using their education resources such as the ‘Start the Conversation’ and ‘Manage the Conversation’ training courses. Another great benefit is their initial assessment of our current mental health offering and policies which we hope will steer us into a stronger position to deliver on our mental health commitment’.

If any of our people require support, we urge you to contact our Training Manager, Sophie Cox, who will be able to provide you with the necessary resources or contact details to start the conversation. We also encourage you to download the Construction Industry Helpline App on your mobile device or contact the Construction Industry Helpline for 24/7 confidential support (0345 605 1956).
