Flannery Plant Hire are proud to support the incredible efforts of the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity
After taking on a cycling challenge for Children in Need, we swore ‘never again’ – however, Flannery just can’t ignore the chance to raise money for a good cause!
The Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity provide a dedicated around-the-clock helpline to support thousands of workers and their families across the construction industry. When we heard about their sponsored cycle through the length of Ireland, Paddy Flannery Snr jumped at the chance to be able to help a cause so close to our hearts in his homeland.
However, tragedy struck our cause when Paddy unfortunately sustained an injury during training for the event – but all was not lost, as we kept it in the family and our Marketing Manager’s partner, Alex de Lacey, stepped in as a volunteer to complete the massive cycle challenge in Paddy’s place.
Flying out on the 11th of May to Cork, Alex completed the mammoth 210 mile journey from Leitrim to Killarney over three days with the rest of the riders, all with the aim of raising as much money as possible for the charity to continue helping construction workers and their families in need of emotional, physical and financial support.
“Cycling that distance over three days was never going to be easy, but I was really excited to get started and the route that the team had planned was incredible. We definitely had our work cut out, cycling against harsh wind and battling with the odd torrential downpour – but it was a great experience and a perfect way to see Ireland! I’m really happy to have stepped in to make sure Flannery were still able to help raise funds for a cause that is really crucial for the construction industry.” – Alex de Lacey
With everybody’s generous donations, we were able to meet our target and raise £5,960 for the charity. If you want to donate, it’s not too late – you can still do so through our dedicated JustGiving page here.
