Digger of the Future

As part of the celebrations for our 50th Anniversary, Flannery recently ran a competition where we asked children to send in their drawings of what they thought the ‘Digger of the Future’ would look like.

We had some wonderful and interesting entries, varying from diggers with fluffy tails, flame throwing diggers and even a remote-operated digger on the moon!

Paddy and Mary Flannery chose a winner together, but they were so impressed with all of the finalists that each runner-up received a £20 Waterstones voucher as a thank you.

However, an overall winner still needed to be chosen – and that winner was Isla, aged 11, with her laser powered, rocket fueled digger that she designed on her computer. Paddy and Mary loved that Isla used futuristic technology to design her futuristic machine.

The grand prize was Isla’s height in books, which she excitedly received last week.

Congratulations to Isla and to our runners up – and keep your eyes peeled for more news on how we’re celebrating turning 50 in the coming months!
